12 April 2006
Finally, after waking up and breakfast, we’re now in Korea. The sky’s changing its colour. I like this kind of moment. I’m quite excited to see how this country’s like
After the immigration, we’re out in the airport hall. There’s some flower there. At first I thought it’s artificial, but then when I touched it… oh… it’s real!
We wouldn’t spend the whole trip in the airport, right? so let’s go out there to see more of the country! Here’s the first moment I saw Korea.
After a while, the traffic started to be crowder… but still kept moving… not too bad, huh?
Long enough from the airport to the city, so we stopped for lunch first. This thing…. hum… it’s like frying all the ingredients you see, vegetable, meat, and… one kind of short and fat noodle which’s really chewy then mixed that with some chilli sauce. I think that chewy short noodle is the main actor of the show. It’s quite nice after frying. I remember we bought some back to Thailand.
After a while, the waitress came to mix some rice it in for us.
Oh.. we can’t eat without things in the following pic, right? It’s the first time I used the metal chopsticks. My first impression was that it’s heavy. (In Thailand, we use wood or plastic chopsticks). Now at home we used those chopsticks and spoon we bought as souvenirs. Good points? They’ll last forever. Bad points? Once I ate some hot soup noodle and I left the chopsticks in the bowl for a while, then ouch!! hot!
It’s time for all the side dishes
The first one’s the seaweed soup. I think the taste of the soup’s a lot softer than Chinese/Japanese/Thai soup.
After this trip, it’s the first time I found I could enjoy kimchi. However, I don’t like the one in this pic that much. It’s more spicy than what I hate in other restaurants later on, and the taste wasn’t well blended. hum.. but the rest of the kimchi I ate in Korea, I’ll say I like it. This one’s just the exceptional.
This one’s my aunt’s favourite. We can find this in Thailand as well, but it’s quite expensive.
Soft black beans with some taste
After feeling full, it’s time for a short walk, so where else could we go? just walking around the restaurant and took the pic of that flower.
I like this duck… hum.. I think it’s cute..=) Why don’t we have something cute like that in Bangkok?
Then, we moved to Nami island. This pic’s taken while we’re crossing (on the furry) to the island.
On the island, there’s nothing much there. hum.. but it’s nice for a rest. I could see some students coming together, couples, and so on.
Then, we walked around and took some pics. It’s hard to take a pic without people in it.
After a while, we stopped to sit at this table to rest.
New leaves coming out. It’s my first time experiencing “Spring”
I think when I see this type of flower (the baby one lol), I feel it’s well protected but quite fragile at the same time. It’s waiting for its time to bloom ^ ^
This’s one part of the island near the pier. I like the style and the colour of this building.
After that we were waiting for the furry to cross back to the main land. I walked around for more pics like usual.
This pic, I tried so hard to take. It’s so high, so I climbed on something to take this pic. People looked at me, I know. haha It might not look that special but I like it =)
This’s the girl statue near the pier. I don’t know if there’s any meaning in it.. but.. hum… I feel a bit lonely seeing it since she’s alone forever on this island ^ ^; However, I don’t think she looks sad though.. hum.. I think she’s kinda part of the water.
Did I make the right decision to start recording the trips I’ve had? Now I started feeling tired since there’re so many pics – -;
Anyway, another pic… You may start noticing I took lot of close up pics… hum… I like to use that macro function of my camera ^ ^
From the nature of the island, now we’re back to the city again. Yeah, along the roads, you can see some people selling stuff like this. Of course, in Bangkok, there’re some people selling stuff on the road, but… hum… not something like this, and they don’t put the toys on the street. Also, people will sell something small like some flower.
Shops along the street. So colourful =)
Then, we went to the place where they shoot the drama called Dae Jang Geum. I think it’s one of the drama that sparked the Korean fever boom in Thailand (along with Full House). (Before that it used to be American –>Japanese–> Taiwanese–>Korean) For Chinese (I don’t know if it’s HK or main land.. perhaps more HK or some Taiwanese), it’s something on Thai TV all the time. Still, now you can still see other dramas like Japanese on TV as well, but fewer than before.
This pic… now I just feel it looks like the fireworks exploding in the sky ^ ^
Since part of Dae Jang Geum drama’s about cooking, so…. let’s see some food related pics! and by the way, I don’t really know those ppl in the pics =p
From watching the drama, I personally felt the food for Korean emperor was more down to earth than the Chinese one’s.
I remember this room from the drama. hum… but now my impression of this room’s that Dracula won’t wanna step in since there’s lot of garlic inside =p
My aunt asked me to take the pic of this flower since she loves purple colour
I like the feeling of this part of the setting. I felt it’s like I was in the past.
This kind of flower.. it’s like the baby bird waiting for the day it can spread their wings and be able to fly into the sky =)
Oh… when we were standing here to take the pic, I remember Chinese tourists asked us in Chinese to take the pic for them. My sister got the camera and spoke to them in Chinese a bit… I guess they thought we’re from China. In fact, in Korea.. hum… we’re misunderstood as many nationalities. Twice at the shops, I talked in English, but the sellers once replied in Chinese. The other time, she brought us to the staff who could speak chinese. Another time, around the entrace area of this place, one girl came to us and asked if we’re Japanese coz she wanted us to help her answering her questionaires. Then, later on, once we were in the city, and one Korean guy stopped at us and started asking us something in Korean, and we looked at him with eyes full of question marks.. so he realized we didn’t understand what he said lol
On the way again to the restaurant. I took this photos because of the cloths of those two girls (not those two guys, by the way haha). I wonder if they’re twins or something since they wore the same style of cloths, except the colour. I think it’s pretty cute ^ ^
I like this kind of scenery… hum… feel like wanna sit there and relax… enjoying the view of cherry blossom at the same time
Before coming to Korea, I saw Korea only through drama. I felt of Korea as somewhere quite similar to Japan. Then, when I really visiting, I felt it’s different. I feel Korea’s something in between China and Japan. I feel it’s influenced by both cultures.
Dinner time… it’s…. don’t ask the goldfish like me for the name of the food lol but I like it
Here, you always got those side dishes (which I like). The white thing on the top left, I don’t really know what it is, but I like.
Here’s the area in front of the restaurant. I quite like it. Feel calm and quiet.
I like the lamp. I think it’s quite pretty especially with the yellow light shining from the insdie and contrasts with the dark night sky
While I was walking along the main street, I noticed this small street which is connected to the main one. I suddenly felt like I wanted to take the pic of this quiet street. In a way, this kind of street, I personally think it shows more how local people live than those main streets with all the tourists.
After that, we stopped at the convenience store for some drink before heading back to the hotel. The hotel we stayed was next to the park, and the hotel itself got the themepark inside.
This pic’s taken from our room window. You can see the glass dome. Inside’s the themepark I was talking about, but it’s closed already by the time I took this pic, so it’s quite dark.
hum… yeah… our bags on the beds…. so they’re not in the perfect condition =p
Some of you may be wondering why did I take the pic below… well well… it’s just part of memory recording haha and… it’s hi-tech toilet haha hum… it’s not widely used in Thailand, for this type of toilet. However, in a way, I’m not familiar with all the fuctions it got lol It sounds cool but felt a bit weird using it haha Ops… shouldn’t I talk about this topic?
Wah!!! Finally I finished my post for the day 2 trip. Never felt this tired writing a blog…. really too many photos.
At first I thought of writing about the day 3 tmr, but not sure now… will see…

Oh my god. Now it’s my turn to envy you! Beautiful sight seeing with the lovely flowers and the old town setting. As usual, the food bombardments which never fail to make me go hungry even though I just ate lunch 2 hours ago. Very interesting Korean food indeed. And yea, they use those metal chopsticks, when I came to use them I had a shock. I’m very bad at using chopsticks in the first place and I am suddenly given metal chopsticks. I surrendered and asked for spoon and fork and looked like a real idiot among my frens.
Anyway, the auntie selling her stuff IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD is really amazing… I cannot imagine that in Singapore. She’ll be killed instantly by the cars.
And wat is the big square pot thingy you have for dinner? Looks impressive and big on proportions.
Looking forward to your second day

Do people use spoon and fork in SG? In Thailand, we use different kinds to suit different food. Like we use spoon and fork with rice, chopsticks with noodle, knife and fork with steak. hum.. and here, people won’t look at you strangely if you can’t master the chopsticks usage skill and ask for spoon and fork =p
That food, it’s kinda pork in the sauce (which tastes more on the salty type) with some vegetable. The square thing’s like the pan, so you heat it (since I don’t think anyone like raw pork =p) and yeah… it’s mixed with the sauce and vegetable.. then eat it with rice.
and of course, it’s big since it’s shared among several people =p
and yeah, in thailand, though some ppl sell stuff on the road, but i’ve never seen put their stuff on the road, especially to show.

In SG, ppl use different cutlery for different dishes and setting. But chinese mainly use chopsticks. I was never taught on how to use the chopsticks the proper way and so grew up using chopsticks the wrong way and very ineffectively as well.
And usually, in Asian restaurant, the rice is served in bowls and chopsticks are used to eat from it. The image of someone using fork and spoon eating from a bowl is just not right…

oh in Thailand, yeah, we use fork and spoon when the rice’s on the plate. At my grandma’s place, we’ll have chopsticks and one spoon, then the rice’s in the bowl. Then, we use the chopsticks to eat the rice (and the spoon’s for the soup).
hum.. I was taught to use chopsticks, but I don’t think I’m a pro or anything lol I saw my Chinese friends use the chopsticks even the rice’s on the flat plate, and for me, that’s difficult…
PS. Oh, you’re still awake. it’s already late there! How’s your X’mas eve? =p

hahaha Nemo, I’m not surprised to hear that you’re not familiar with it. I went there with the tour, so I think they often try to save their cost in a way. I was some Korean in the restaurant though not that many. However, I guess it may be the same as when the tour from abroad came to Thailand, they’d go to certain restaurants which are their regulars. hum.. so I think most places I went, they target tourists =)
